There is an application process to enroll in this course. This course is designed to provide potential school and community leaders the opportunity to develop organizational and communication skills. This course introduces students to leadership techniques and offers them a way in which to put these skills into action. This course teaches leadership skills in the areas that include, but are not limited to the following: parliamentary procedure, meeting planning, problem solving and decision-making, goal setting, communication skills, evaluation, conflict resolution, time and stress management, public speaking, team building, other group processes, and the role of leadership in a democratic society. This course requires active participation in class. Additionally, as a member of the class, each student is involved in a service learning project that requires twenty hours outside of class tutoring elementary and /or middle school students during the year. ELECTIVE ONLY -- This course may not be used to meet the social studies requirements for graduation.
