AP ART STUDIO 2D DESIGN PORTFOLIO (357420AW)

Semester Course (1 unit), Grade Level(s): 11-12

Prerequisites: Art 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 and teacher recommendation (which is based on the student’s portfolio). If available at the school, successful completion of Photography course and teacher recommendation .

This college-level course allows students to expand their studio skills and sense of design through independent art projects. The course is aligned with the SC Visual and Performing Arts Academic Achievement Standards. This course follows the requirements and syllabus for AP Art. This portfolio is intended to address two dimensional (2-D) design issues. Design involves purposeful decision making about how to use the elements and principles of art in an integrative way. Students are asked to demonstrate mastery of 2-D designs through any two dimensional medium or process, including, but not limited to, illustration, painting, and printmaking. The 2-D Portfolio has a requirement of 12 pieces of art in a breadth section and up to 12 pieces in a concentration section. The complete portfolio is compiled and sent to the College Board for consideration of college credit. A more detailed course description is available online at apcentral.collegeboard.com.
