Percussion is a class for ALL Daniel High School Percussionists and will focus on skill building in the three main categories of percussion performance (snare drum, keyboards, timpani) as well as all other orchestral and world percussion instruments. Students in this class will study percussion ensemble literature and will serve as the percussion sections for the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.

Wind Ensemble is an advanced, upper level course that is focused on the study of the most advanced concert band literature. Honors credit is available for 11th and 12th grade students. The Wind Ensemble is the premier performing ensemble in the Daniel High School Band Department and will have numerous performance opportunities throughout the year.

Symphonic Band is an intermediate concert ensemble that is geared towards underclassmen and developing musicians. Honors credit is available for 11th and 12th grade students. This ensemble will have numerous performance opportunities throughout the year.

Jazz Ensemble is an “early-bird” before school course and meets every day from 7:35am – 8:10am. This ensemble is committed to studying the highest level of jazz literature and improvisation. Honors credit is available for 11th and 12th grade students. The jazz ensemble performs at numerous events throughout the year, both on campus and off campus.

AP Music Theory is an advanced level course that focuses on the theory and fundamentals of music. A strong musical background is imperative for success in this course.

Marching Band is an after school/extra-curricular ensemble that is the competitive ensemble at Daniel High School. The marching band has camp in late July and rehearses three days a week after school in the month of August, September and October. The marching competes at the highest level across South Carolina. We highly encourage and recommend that all DHS band students be a member of the Lion’s Pride Marching Band. Exceptions are involvement in an fall season activity that prohibits the student from fulfilling the responsibilities associated with the Marching Band.

The Million Dollar Question…

Is it possible for my student to take band every year and still take all of the AP/Honors courses they want to take?

The answer is YES and still take FOUR YEARS OF BAND!!!

We have students EVERY year that take numerous AP and Honors courses and/or Career Center courses and are still able to fit band into their schedules. Sometimes, it takes some flexibility and sacrifice on the student and parent’s part and many times, schedules can be worked out with our guidance department who is very band supportive! Ultimately, if your student wants to take band each year, we can make it happen!!!
